Bozeman, MT
The Golden Rule Building was at one time a very prominent building on Bozeman’s Main Street. Originally built in 1906 and renovated in the 1960s, it had sat in a state of disrepair for about 40 years before it was purchased by its current owner, whose goal was to return the building to its historic elegance. Legends Studio, Inc. started the design of the building with significant demolition, followed by sizable restoration and renovation of the existing storefront and building interior. Sleek, black granite was incorporated in the storefront windows, reinstating the building’s former presence on Main Street. The Golden Rule, though one of our most involved projects, has also been one of our most rewarding design works.

The Tonic Hair Salon retail space was a tenant improvement project that we completed on the first floor of the Golden Rule Building. Our client, the owner of Tonic Hair Salon, was initially attracted to the space because of its characteristic brick wall, wood floor, and high ceilings. The floor was later patched and refinished, and the brick wall was cleaned. We added corrugated metal for texture, as well as a few warm, vivid colors om the walls to reinvigorate the space. The salon occupied around 1700 square feet. Within this area, we brought together a retail and reception space, ten stylist stations, two drying stations, an aesthetician’s room, a massage room, and a utility room.

The Complete Project Resource office space was another tenant improvement project within the Golden Rule Building. As construction industry workers, the clients wanted to showcase some of the rustic materials they had used on their own projects. Therefore, we incorporated an antiqued corrugated metal face into the reception desk, along with a reclaimed wood countertop. The same reclaimed wood was also incorporated into the custom cabinet and bookcase unit in the conference room. The office comprises around 1,100 square feet, with space for a conference room, two private offices, two open workstations, a small kitchenette and work room, open receptionist office, and a waiting area.

Like Tonic Hair Salon, the Hey Day retail space was a tenant improvement project on the first floor of the Golden Rule Building. Our client wanted to create an open, energetic, comfortable space where she could display a wide range of products for the home. She came to us with three selected colors and some very specific ideas for the design. A white ceiling was used to keep the entire space light, while colorful walls provided an excellent backdrop for the range of fun and playful products on sale. Hey Day currently occupies about 1,880 square feet. Most of the store is open for the display of retail products, with a separate office and receiving room at the back.
